LAREDO, Texas — Patient care in Laredo has received a major boost, thanks to Luis Guevara, D.O., and Tyler King, D.O., who have earned specialized board certifications. Both are family medicine physicians at Laredo Medical Center affiliate, Primary Care Associates of Laredo.
“Congratulations to Dr. Guevara and Dr. King for enhancing their knowledge and expanding the scope of their practice by earning additional national board certifications in high-demand specialties. These certifications provide physicians with advanced knowledge and skills to improve patient outcomes,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, chief executive officer of Laredo Medical Center.
Luis Guevara, D.O.
Dr. Guevara has earned certification in sleep medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
As a result of his successful performance on the certification exam, ABFM has awarded Dr. Guevara a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sleep Medicine. The ABFM is responsible for certifying family medicine physicians in the U.S., ensuring that they meet the highest standards of medical education, training and patient care in the family medicine field. The Sleep Medicine certification offered by ABFM allows family medicine physicians to demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of sleep disorders. It is an option for board-certified family medicine physicians who are interested in specializing in sleep medicine and desire to deepen their understanding of the field of sleep health.
Local patients will benefit from Dr. Guevara’s extensive training and knowledge in diagnosing and managing clinical conditions related to sleep, including those that disrupt sleep or are influenced by disturbances in the wake-sleep cycle.
Tyler King, D.O.
Dr. King has been certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) as an ABOM Diplomate after undergoing rigorous training in obesity medicine and an extensive examination process to achieve this designation.
The ABOM serves the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessment and credentialing physicians. Certification as an ABOM Diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity affects over 40 percent of U.S. adults and increases the risks for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and musculoskeletal problems. Obesity has been officially recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association since 2013.
