Inpatient Rehabilitation
Laredo Medical Center's inpatient rehabilitation center offers rehabilitation services in a supportive, caring environment where we focus on emphasizing ability, not disability.
All rooms are private. Physician coverage is available around the clock and the nursing staff has received specialized training in rehabilitation. The interdisciplinary team specializes in individualized inpatient rehabilitation programs. We believe in a team approach to care that involves patients, family members and health care providers. Your rehabilitation care team includes:
- Medical director
- Consulting physicians
- Rehabilitation nurses
- Physical therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Speech-language pathologists
- Care coordinators
- Registered dietitian
We provide care for patients who are recovering from:
- Stroke
- Spinal cord injury
- Congenital deformity
- Amputation
- Major multiple trauma
- Fracture of femur or hip
- Brain injury
- Neurological disorders
- Burns
- Active polyarticular RA, psoriatic arthritis, and seronegative arthropathies
- Systemic vasculitides with joint inflammation
- Severe or advanced OA
- Knee or hip replacement
Family members/caregivers are encouraged to participate in the rehabilitation process and support the patient on the road to recovery. If a caregiver would like to observe a specific therapy session, please speak with the therapist.
Care coordinators are available on the unit to answer questions and help facilitate a smooth discharge process. Support will be offered to caregivers with education on how best to assist the patient after discharge.
Inpatient rehabilitation may be available to patients who:
- Require 24-hour medical supervision but are medically stable
- Are able to tolerate three to four hours of therapy per day
- Require moderate to maximum assistance with mobility, speech, language or activities of daily living
- Require an interdisciplinary approach of at least two services, including physical, occupational or speech therapy
- Have potential to improve function and can demonstrate new learning
- Have the participation and support of family upon discharge
Referrals

You must also have a physician referral, be willing to participate in three hours of therapy a day and require the treatment of two or more therapies (physical, occupational and/or speech). Grant us the opportunity to see if you or your family member would benefit from staying at the Laredo Medical Center - Inpatient Rehabilitation Center.
