Laredo Medical Center Kicks Off Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to Support the South Texas Food Bank
2/28/2025
LAREDO, Texas – In March, Laredo Medical Center kicks off its annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefitting the South Texas Food Bank and is inviting community members to participate in this effort to fight hunger in the local area.
Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items. The third annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive will kick off on Monday, March 3 and will run through Monday, March 24.
“Laredo Medical Center not only supports the patients who come through our doors, we are also committed to supporting better health throughout our community,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO. “In the eight-county area served by the South Texas Food Bank, including Laredo and Webb County, one in six people and one in four children struggle with hunger every day. Food insecurity can have a profound impact on overall health and well-being. With the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, we can help a vital community organization reduce hunger in our area.”
Schools, businesses and members of the community are invited to support the drive by helping Laredo Medical Center collect as much peanut butter, or other nutritious butters like almond butter or sunflower seed butter. Plastic jar donations will be accepted at the Laredo Medical Center McAuley Cafeteria, Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations can also dropped at the Jars of Love donation barrels at several participating businesses, including Organic Man Coffee Trike, Pizza Box and Jalapenos Pizza at 9802 McPherson Road. The South Texas Food Bank is also making it convenient to support the peanut butter drive via an online donation form at www.southtexasfoodbank.org/jars-of-love.
Additionally, students can earn community service hours for their donations. For more information, call LMC Food and Nutrition Director at (956) 796-4182.
